Melk Abbey Church (Stiftskirche)

Critics say that the Baroque interiors of Melk Abbey are excessively busy. Primarily the work of Jakob Prendtaur (1702-1736), there is enough gold to start a small Ft. Knox plus marble embellishment, lots of windows and ceiling frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr with some work by Paul Troger. All in all, it's pretty dazzling.

There are usually sixteen olive branches hanging from the ceiling. On this day in October 2014, elderberry branches were hung in honor of an Irish saint.
